Get to Know the Counselor
My name is Ethan Mattingly, and I am a pastoral counselor serving individuals, couples, and families in Hamilton, Alabama through Cedars Health — a faith-based ministry committed to whole-person care.
I want to be clear from the start: I am not a licensed mental health therapist, I am a pastoral counselor. Where licensed therapy focuses primarily on clinical diagnosis and psychological treatment, pastoral counseling addresses the spiritual, emotional, and relational dimensions of human struggle through the lens of Christian faith. If you are looking for someone who will meet you as a whole person — body, soul, and spirit — rather than just a diagnosis, that is exactly what I offer.
Cedars Health provides care through 4Pillars: Pastoral Counseling, Psychotherapy, Psychiatry, and Personal Development. Each of these pillars are led by professionals of the related field. The Pastoral Counseling & Personal Development Pillar's are led by Ethan Mattingly, the Psychotherapy Pillar will be led by an LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or Psychologist, and the Psychiatry Pillar will be led by a PMHNP or Psychiatrist.
Cedars Health is striving to be a completely donor funded organization, allowing us to hire the right professionals & clinicians for each pillar, expand patient care access, and most importantly work to fulfill The Great Commission.
I hold a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling (pending completion August 2026), and I integrate biblical truth, Christian theology, and evidence-informed care practices to walk alongside people in the real weight of life. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relational conflict, spiritual crisis, or a season that has simply left you feeling lost, you do not have to carry it alone.
I came to this work through calling rather than career — and I believe the best healing happens at the intersection of honest conversation, genuine relationship, and the presence of God.
Regardless if you are a committed Christian or not, someone who has never tried counseling before, or simply someone who wants to grow in their Christian discipleship journey — you are welcome here.
